Mammoth Cave National Park (9:30am – ? – All Ages!)
Mammoth Cave National Park preserves the cave system and a part of the Green River valley and hilly country of south central Kentucky. This is the world’s longest known cave system, with more than 400 miles (643 km) explored. Join fellow NCSC attendees for a day trip after the conference!
We will depart from the hotel at 9:30 a.m. and arrive at the park mid-morning. The drive is about 1 ½ hours. You will have a choice between two cave tours: Domes & Dripstones tour and Frozen Niagara tour. (Descriptions below.)
We will have plenty of time to explore the park and make stops on the drive up and back. Each person will either pack a picnic and/or our group can opt to stop for lunch on the way back to Nashville,TN. Be sure to budget for lunch and any incidentals that you may want.
Transportation options to Mammoth Cave National Park will depend on the number of early registrations received. We will either get rental vans for 12 occupants each (including the driver) and/or we will carpool.
Domes & Dripstones tour: This classic tour visits areas of Mammoth Cave that have been used for nearly 100 years. This tour begins in a sinkhole, passes through huge domes, amazing breakdown, and ends in the dripstone section known as Frozen Niagara. This tour is about 2 hours long as you walk approximately ¾ mile. It ascends and descends hundreds of stairs and several steep inclines, which rates it as moderately difficult. Cost is $18.00.
Frozen Niagara tour: For those of us who may not feel quite up to climbing up and down hundreds of steps, this will be the tour of choice. The naturally decorated Frozen Niagara section remains one of the most famous at Mammoth Cave. This tour is 1 ¼ hours long and approximately a ¼ mile walk. There are a total number of 12 stairs, with the option to climb 98 more, which rates the difficulty level as easy. Cost is $15.00.
Click here to purchase a ticket! Space is very limited and cave tours are filling up quickly. Registration has been extended until Thursday, October 17th OR until the tour fills up, whichever comes first.
